Britain to be hit by THUNDERSNOW as Arctic plunge smashes UK in 48 HOURS

Britons should make the most of the mild weather over the next couple of days before a numbing Arctic blast puts the nation on ice.

Thermometers will start to dip this weekend before nosediving into minus figures towards the middle of next week.

Scotland and the north are in the firing line for the worst of the weather with some forecasters predicting snow for the region.

Forecasters are warning Monday is set to be the coldest day of autumn so far.

Met Office forecaster said: "Low pressure to the east of the UK and high pressure to the west will pull Arctic Maritime air into Britain"

He said temperatures could dip to -4C (24.8F) in rural regions overnight into Monday with much of the country likely to wake to frost.

“Sunday will be dry for most but we could start to see wintry showers over the north,” he added.

“On Sunday night and into Monday we expect a widespread air frost as temperatures possibly drop to -4C (24.8) in rural regions.

“It is going to feel pretty chilly with many places falling to between freezing and 2C (35.6F).”

Temperatures will plunge more than 10C from this week with the whole of the country set to feel much colder than of late.

Piers Corbyn, forecaster for WeatherAction, said stormy conditions clashing with freezing air could trigger “thundersnow” in the north.
