Irma Leaves 4.1 Million Without Power in Florida As It Continues Its Assault

Hurricane Irma has left 4.1 million people without power in Florida as it continues to batter the state with damaging winds and storm surge.

The state's largest electric utility, Florida Power & Light, told the Associated Press that nearly 1 million of its customers are powerless in Miami-Dade County alone. There are roughly 7 million residential customers in the state.

At least 3 deaths have been attributed to the storm. Two deaths occurred in Hardee County and 1 death was reported in Orange County.

The storm made its second landfall in Marco Island Sunday as a Category 3 hurricane with winds up to 115 mph. It arrived after battering the Caribbean, where it left at least 23 dead.
