Mayon Volcano erupts anew
Two phreatic or steam-driven explosions have been recorded at Mayon Volcano in Albay, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said yesterday.
Phivolcs said the phreatic eruption occurred at about 8:11 a.m. on Thursday and 6:27 a.m. yesterday, and generated ash plumes as high as 500 meters before drifting southwest.
A moderate emission of white steam-laden plumes that drifted west-northwest, west-southwest was also observed.
Phivolcs recorded six volcanic quakes and two rockfalls.
Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Mayon. It means the volcano is experiencing a moderate level of unrest.
