Breaking news: Typhoon Odette makes landfall in Siargao Island,Philippines

 









Typhoon Odette (Rai) made landfall in Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte, at
1:30 pm on Thursday, December 16, bringing torrential rain and very
destructive winds.



The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services
Administration (PAGASA) said past 2:30 pm on Thursday that Odette strengthened
again right before hitting land.




The typhoon’s maximum sustained winds are now at 195 kilometers per hour from
the previous 185 km/h. Its gustiness also increased to 240 km/h from 230 km/h.



Odette accelerated a bit, moving west northwest at 30 km/h from the previous
25 km/h.



From Siargao Island, the typhoon will continue heading west northwest or west
toward Dinagat Islands, where it could make its second landfall on Thursday
afternoon.
