Breaking news: A very strong earthquake hits Indonesia
A very strong earthquake occurred in the Flores Sea of Indonesia at
03:20 UTC, today. According to the US Geological Survey, the quake had a
magnitude of 7.3 on the Richter scale and a focal depth of just 12 kilometers.
About 40,000 people live within a radius of 100 kilometers from the epicenter
while the earthquake was felt at at least 300,000.
Tsunami warning
A tsunami alert was issued shortly after the quake, but according
to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), the danger has
passed.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) has issued a green warning for
potential earthquake-related casualties and financial issues.
Homes in this area are quite vulnerable to earthquakes and recent
earthquakes have caused significant damage.
