Major Snowstorm Hitting DC, USA Area

A major snowstorm is hitting the D.C. area early Monday. Many schools declared
a snow day, federal offices are closed and fast-falling snow is piling up on
roadways. Scores of people have no power.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a snow emergency.

Up to 1.5 inches of snow were falling per hour in downtown D.C. as of midday,
Storm Team4's Doug Kammerer said.

All Metrobus service across the D.C. area is suspended, the transit agency
announced at about 9:30 a.m., citing “rapidly deteriorating weather and
hazardous road conditions.” Buses operating now will operate to the end of
their lines if it’s safe to do so. Other buses will be held at stops until
roads are passable and safe, Metro said in a statement. D.C. Circulator
service also is suspended.
